HL7 class: A Tale of Two Cities
Oslo, Norway and Houston, Texas
Oslo
Microsoft engaged Flo Technologies to deliver custom training and consulting for a hospital in Oslo,
which is currently using the BizTalk HL7 Accelerator.
They want to send HL7 messages to the hospitals in the northern region of Norway,
who are currently using a national health messaging standard called KITH,
which uses XML Schemas with ebXML transports.
IT staff from both regions attended the class.
To satisfy this requirement for integrating BizTalk's native HL7 processing with the KITH XML standard,
we downloaded the KITH XML schemas from the KITH website,
mapped HL7 interchanges between BTA4HL7 and KITH,
and configured a working architectural model, using our "basic skills".
Houston
In Houston, Flo Technologies delivered a custom training class for a hospital
whose immediate needs were quite different:
generate HL7 messages from multiple source systems
transform them into the proprietary HL7 message formats used by the target systems,
update a proprietary database for controlling business processes,
and validate business rules through custom components.
We learned how to implement each aspect of their overall process,
using the tools in our toolchest, and our "basic skills".
